Copyediting is the final quality control measure before you introduce your project to the world.

Nonfiction copyediting helps ensure writing is clear, consistent, and logical so readers can follow the meaning and syntax of every sentence.

I’m pleased to manage a team of nonfiction editors who can give your project that final professional touch. Use the link below to get in touch and let us know about your project.

Copyediting

We will edit your manuscript or other project for spelling, grammar, punctuation, syntax, clarity, and style. Recommended as the final layer of editing before publication.

A book that feels traditionally published

Traditionally published books use clear, concise language and follow the Chicago Manual of Style (or other reference guide). We’ll make sure your manuscript does both.

Copy that says what you intend it to

Nonfiction copyediting is all about clarity and precision; readers need to follow along with every point you make. This means focused attention on grammar, spelling, and syntax so you’re saying exactly what you mean to say.

Suggestions for rephrasing and clarifying

Readers shouldn’t have to reread confusing sentences or stumble over gaps in logic. I’ll fix or point out any red flags, then I’ll review your final changes (up to one hour; additional time available at standard consulting rates).

The right voice for your audience

I’ll help you develop a writing style that connects with readers and addresses the right audience, and I’ll work with you to incorporate any links or CTAs that connect your book with your entrepreneurial goals. (I love that stuff.)

A custom style sheet

Whatever you do from here, you’ll always know which spelling you used for that city in Europe, whether you italicized or capitalized each step in a process, or whether you used words or numerals for each stage of a program. I build a list of all the picky details as a part of my editing process, and I’ll send that list to you so you can refer to it whenever you want.

What others are saying

Sarah is a skilled and knowledgeable copyeditor. In addition to hunting down some slightly obscure grammar rules (Chicago) I’d been having issues with, she gave wonderful overall feedback of a few things I should keep in mind in my future writing projects. Without a doubt, I will work with Sarah again.

Lindsey Fairleigh, fiction author

She has an eye for detail, but is particular—not pedantic. She is always open to discussion and debate—yet is confident enough to stand her ground on behalf of the greater good of any manuscript. Working with Sarah is always a pleasure, and I would recommend contacting her for any of your editing or proofreading needs.

Robert Schmidt, Editorial Manager, Hillcrest Media Group

Sarah edited advanced work prepared by subject matter experts and attorneys. Whether the workproduct was a brief to be filed with a court, a chapter for national publication, or a white paper designed to impact public policy, Sarah handled the project with aplomb and style. I can’t recommend her enough.

Stacey Supina, Managing Director, Legal Research Center

Sarah is an exceptional, diverse editor with an attention to detail that every project needs. Sarah helped me research, compile, and edit my book, The Fine Print of Self-Publishing. This book is directly responsible for a significant amount of business for my company. Sarah was my first and only choice for this editing assignment.

Mark Levine, Founder, Hillcrest Media Group
